There is something so special about photographing friendships that have stood the test of time, and Karsyn and Killian’s Charleston senior session was one I’ll never forget. Their session was filled with so much beauty, joy, nostalgia, and excitement for the next chapter ahead. While this season marks a brand-new beginning for both of them, it also celebrated a friendship that has been part of their story since elementary school.
We began Karsyn’s senior portraits at the iconic Old Charleston Custom House in downtown Charleston, one of my favorite locations for timeless senior portraits. The beautiful Corinthian columns, paired with the stunning black-and-white checkered flooring, created the dreamiest and most classic backdrop for her photos. There is something about the elegance of the Custom House that feels both refined and powerful, especially for such a meaningful milestone like graduating high school.
We also photographed Karsyn’s cap and gown portraits here, which added such a sentimental touch to the beginning of the session. I always love incorporating cap and gown images into senior sessions because they help tell the full story of this season of life. It’s a celebration of all the hard work, growth, and memories that brought them to this moment.
Afterward, we made our way to the colorful and charming Rainbow Row where we met up with Killian. We began near the cobblestone streets capturing photos of the two of them in their university shirts before they begin their next adventure. Karsyn is heading to the University of Tennessee, and Killian will be attending the University of North Carolina. While this will be the first time in their lives living apart from one another, one of the sweetest parts of the session was hearing about their plans to remain lifelong friends despite the distance ahead.
As the session continued, the girls changed into their beautiful dresses, and we wandered throughout Rainbow Row and some of Charleston’s most iconic streets capturing portraits together. Charleston truly has a way of making every corner feel romantic and timeless. Between the pastel homes, historic architecture, glowing light, and hidden alleyways, every part of the evening felt magical.
One of my favorite parts about photographing Karsyn and Killian was simply watching their friendship together. You could instantly tell how much history and love exists between them. Having grown up side-by-side since elementary school, their connection felt effortless, genuine, and deeply meaningful. Sessions like these always remind me how important it is to document friendships during milestone seasons of life, not just individual accomplishments.
We ended the evening by the water with the stunning Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge glowing in the background as the sun began to set. The soft sunset colors over the water created the most beautiful ending to such a heartfelt session.
One of the things that made this senior session even sweeter was having Kelley and Debbie, Karsyn and Killian’s moms, join us throughout the evening. I always encourage moms to step into the frame and be part of these milestone moments, whether it’s a high school senior session, graduation portraits, or even an engagement session years later. These seasons pass so quickly, and documenting these memories alongside mom makes the moments feel even more meaningful and cherished for years to come.
Karsyn and Killian, it was truly such an honor documenting this season for the both of you. I am so excited to see where life takes you next, and I have no doubt your friendship will continue to remain something incredibly special for years to come.
